Photo Gallery The Marquette University men’s tennis team (13-8) dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Youngstown State Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The matchup was the final dual of the regular season and the Golden Eagles will now travel to Cayce, S.C., for the BIG EAST Tournament next weekend. Seeding for the field will be announced on Monday afternoon.

YSU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, but MU moved ahead 2-1 after singles wins by Brett Meyers and Alavaro Verdu at the No. 6 and No. 1 positions, respectively. Senior Kristiyan Trukov rallied for a victory of his own at No. 4 to tie the score at 3-3.

Unfortunately for MU, freshman Luke Smrek was unable to close out his opponent at No. 2 and the Penguins were able to escape with the win.
