MU Claims 4-0 Victory Over Georgetown In BIG EAST Tourney

The Marquette University men’s tennis team (14-11) claimed a 4-0 victory over Georgetown Saturday afternoon in the consolation bracket of the 2011 BIG EAST Championship, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles, seeded sixth in the nine-team event, were defeated 4-0 by third-seeded USF on Friday afternoon at the Courtney Tennis Center in main draw quarterfinal action. Georgetown was the tourney’s seventh seed.
“I was happy with the way the guys responded after a tough loss yesterday,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We were aggressive and took advantage of the opportunities we were presented. We’re looking forward to wrapping up the tournament on Sunday.”
Starting with singles competition, Marquette was able to claim four straight-set victories to earn the points necessary to earn the team victory. Posting wins for the Golden Eagles were Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley, Drake Kakar, Logon Collins and Otavio Perim. Perim clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 position.
Gutierrez Crowley, Kakar and Collins all collected their respective first career singles victory at the BIG EAST Championship.
The Golden Eagles will face No. 4 seed and 60th-ranked DePaul at 8 a.m. CT on Sunday morning at Leeper Park Tennis Center in the fifth-place match. The Blue Demons defeated MU 5-2 at Helfaer Tennis Stadium in the regular-season finale on April 16.
