Freshmen Nick Dykema and Kristiyan Trukov continued their impressive respective debut campaigns with the Marquette University men’s tennis team by capturing flight titles at the 2013 Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon.

Dykema, who lost only one set the entire weekend, cruised past Martin Muadi of IPFW 6-3, 6-1 in the title matchup of the Flight D bracket. The Green Bay, Wis., native is now 7-1 on the year in singles play after finishing a perfect 4-0 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Trukov is now 8-0 on the year after claiming the championship in the Flight E main draw. The Gurnee, Ill., native downed Lucas Maak of Valparaiso 6-4, 6-2 to finish first. He also teamed up with a partner from Iowa to earn the consolation title in the Flight B doubles bracket.

“I have obviously not only been pleased with the results of Nick and Kristiyan on the court and just as happy with what they have brought to the team as a whole,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “Their early results are a reflection of the efforts they have put in on a daily basis in practice.”
