MU Opens Play At Notre Dame's Tom Fallon Invitational

The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play Friday afternoon at the Tom Fallon Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, with both singles and doubles competition at the Courtney Tennis Center.
Three of Marquette’s four doubles tandems picked up wins on Friday afternoon, which each of the duos including one of MU’s four newcomers. Freshman James Stark downed Matt Ford of Cleveland State 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) for his first career victory and senior Jonathan Schwerin collected his first singles decision of the campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jacob Wilson of Illinois State. Junior Otavio Perim, who posted a perfect 3-0 record at the season-opening Milwaukee Tennis Classic, dropped his first match of 2011-12.
The tournament field returns to the courts at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
The invitational is named after legendary head coach Tom Fallon, who coached the Irish from 1957-87, compiling a record of 514-194 (.726). Fallon coached seven All-Americans and led Notre Dame to the 1959 National Championship. For his efforts, Fallon was inducted into the ITA Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame in 1988.
