MU Claims Six Victories On Opening Day At Ball State Fall Invite
Sept. 25, 2009
Muncie, Ind. -
The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the 2009 Ball State Fall Invitational Friday with singles action in three different flights.
Rainy weather conditions forced the 16-team event indoors and as a result the schedule was adjusted to consist of just singles play. The tournament will continue Saturday morning with flight action in both singles and doubles.
The Golden Eagles claimed victories in each of their first six outings at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. Freshman Otavio Perim and seniors Niko Boulieris and Mark Rutherford earned Flight “A” wins. Perim is now 3-1 on the season. Fellow newcomer Jacob Straus improved to 4-0 with a victory of his own and sophomores Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin also walked off the court in possession of a positive result.
“We obviously got off to a great start and that was good to see,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “Jonathan picked up an impressive win over a solid opponent in his first match of the season.”
Schwerin was held out of the season-opening Milwaukee Tennis Classic because of an injury.
