The Marquette University men's tennis team opened play at the 2015 Purdue Fall Invitational Friday morning in West Lafayette, Ind., competing in both singles and doubles action.

Sophomore Scott Christian earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chandler Stimpert of Lewis in the Flight E draw and freshman Alvaro Verdu advanced in the Flight A bracket after his opponent withdrew because of injury. Both sophomore Andre Romanello (Flight B) and senior Gleb Sklyr (Flight C) fell in their respective opening matchups and will play in the consolation pairings on Saturday morning.
In doubles play, Marquette's tandem of Sklyr/Christian edged a duo from Wright State in the Flight B draw before dropping a tough 9-8 decision to George Hedley and Christian Haushammer of Louisville. The combination of Romanello/Verdu fell in its event opener and moved into the consolation bracket.
