Marquette Wraps Up Play At Ball State Fall Invitational
Sept. 27, 2009
The Marquette University men’s tennis team wrapped up play at the Ball State Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon with both singles and doubles action in multiple flights.
The Golden Eagles were well represented deep into many of the main draws, but were unable to leave Muncie, Ind., in possession of any individual or team titles.
Sophomore Drake Kakar and freshman Otavio Perim did advance to the title match of Flight C doubles, but because of the backlogged weekend schedule MU departed before the contest was played. The Golden Eagles also placed a pair of duos in the Flight A doubles draw semifinals, but came up short in tiebreaker decisions.
“We had a number of strong performances throughout the weekend,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “Our doubles play was much improved from last weekend, Otavio (Perim) continues to make strides and Drake (Kakar) played very well also.”
Kakar fell to Mathias Hambach of DePaul in the Flight C semifinals, coming up just short in a match that finished 11-9 in the tiebreaker. Freshman Jacob Straus suffered his first defeat of the young campaign, also falling in semifinal action to Ball State’s Alex Doherty, 6-4, 6-3.
