The Marquette University men's tennis team opened play Friday with singles and doubles competition at the 34th Annual Ball State Fall Invitational in Muncie, Ind.

The day's action was highlighted by the play of freshman Javier Varela Hernani and sophomore James Stark, who each won two matches in the Flight B singles draw. As a result, each player has earned a spot in Saturday's quarterfinals. Both Varela Hernani and Stark collected a straight-set win on the day and both were also forced to post a win in a tiebreaker.

Varela Hernani and sophomore David Packowitz were also able to claim an 8-2 victory in doubles action and will also play in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Marquette's Logon Collins and Vukasin Teofanovic are in Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American. Each player earned a spot in the pre-qualifying draw and will begin play on Saturday morning. Collins is Tulsa native and is returning for the second year.
