The Marquette University men's tennis team opened a busy weekend at the Ball State Fall Invitational on Friday, competing in both singles and doubles action.

The day's activities at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center were extended because of poor weather conditions, which forced the event to be moved indoors. The players will return to the court Saturday morning to resume action.

Friday was highlighted by freshman David Packowitz, who picked up a pair of victories in the Cardinal bracket to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. He will play Alex Doherty of Ball State Saturday afternoon as play continues.

Logon Collins, Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and Dan Mamalat will be the Marquette representatives at the ITA All-American Championships. The event will feature more than 300 players contending for the first national title of the 2011-12 college tennis season. Collins will face Conor Berg of New Mexico to open play in the pre-qualifying draw and Mamalat takes on Badr Cherradi of Southern Illinois on Saturday. Gutierrez Crowley was placed in the qualifying draw and will wait for his opponent to be determined. The duo of Mamalat/Gutierrez Crowley will also compete in doubles action beginning later in the weekend.
