Poor Weather Conditions Slow Play At Wildcat Invitational
Oct. 2, 2009
Evanston, Ill. -
Poor weather conditions created a long day for the 10-team field at the 2009 Northwestern Wildcat Invitational, forcing matches indoors where fewer courts are available.
As a result, the Marquette men’s tennis team saw limited action Friday morning and afternoon. A majority of the singles action was delayed and doubles wasn’t expected to begin until the early evening hours.
In Flight A singles action early Friday, senior Mark Rutherford advanced in the main draw with a 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 victory over Eduardo Pavia of Ball State. Freshman Otavio Perim fell in his opener and will now try to advance in the back draw.
Also posting singles victories were sophomores Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin, who each earned straight-set decisions. Junior Jose Manuel Munoz defeated Matt Manasse of Purdue 6-4, 6-2 in the Flight D bracket.
