The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the 2013 Ball State Fall Invitational with both singles and doubles competition Friday in Muncie, Ind.

Senior Logon Collins, who earned an opening-round bye in the Flight A draw, advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight-set victory over Tommy Marx of Butler. He will face Illinois State’s Jacob Wilson on Saturday morning for a spot in the semifinals.

The freshman duo of Nick Dykema and Kristiyan Trukov continued its winning ways, posting a pair of wins in Flight B action. Both newcomers, who each claimed flight titles at the Purdue Invitational (Sept. 20-22), are through to the quarterfinals at BSU after straight-set victories.

Dykema and Trukov have combined to post a 17-1 record in singles and Trukov is undefeated in his first nine outings.

Junior Cameron Tehrani claimed a tiebreaker victory in his opening match in the top bracket, but was defeated in the same scenario in his second outing of the day to end his tourney run.

The tandem of Collins/Trukov defeated its opponent from Chicago State in the first contest of Flight A competition, but was defeated by the host Cardinals in the quarterfinals. MU’s duo of Dykema/Tehrani is through to the semifinals in Flight B after earning a win Friday afternoon.

Play resumes Saturday morning with singles competition.
