Golden Eagles Complete Day One At Purdue Invitational

Oct. 10, 2009

Milwaukee -

The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the 2009 Purdue Invitational Saturday morning with both singles and doubles competition and features several representatives still alive in multiple main draws.

Freshman Jacob Straus and sophomore Drake Kakar each posted a pair of wins and own spots in Sunday’s Flight B semifinal matchups. Newcomer Otavio Perim and sophomore Jonathan Schwerin teamed up for two victories in the Flight A doubles draw and will face a tandem from Purdue on Sunday morning.

Senior Dusan Medan wrapped up his week-long excursion at the D’Novo/ITA All-American Saturday afternoon with a 7-6, 6-4 loss to Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation. Medan, who was playing his ninth match in eight days, had a pair of set points in the first frame and was up a break in the second before falling victim to Kustrovsky’s rally.

Not competing this weekend for the Golden Eagles are seniors Niko Boulieris and Mark Rutherford.
