West Lafayette, Ind. - The Marquette University men's team enjoyed a dominating performance at the 2008 Purdue Invitational Sunday afternoon, claiming three of the four singles flights and advancing to the championship match of both doubles flights.

"It was a really good weekend," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We had a number of guys play quality tennis and the individual results were very rewarding."

Junior Dusan Medan didn't drop a set all weekend en route to the Flight "A" singles title, defeating Reinoud Hall of Iowa 7-6, 6-4 in a hard-fought match. Classmate Niko Boulieris earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Tommy McGeorge of Iowa in the Flight "B" championship contest. MU's Mark Rutherford also posted a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against Griff Nienberg of Purdue to claim the flight's consolation title.

Freshman Drake Kakar didn't waste any time in collecting his first career flight title, dropping Purdue's Thomas Wilson 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to claim the Flight "D" crown. Fellow newcomer J.T. Christian claimed the consolation match in the flight as well, earning a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 win over Butler's Zach Ervin.

In limited doubles action, MU advanced to the title match in both Flight "A" and "B." Senior Stephen Shao and Rutherford posted a pair of wins en route to the championship contest and Boulieris and Juan-Martin Paredes did the same in Flight "B."

Marquette returns to action next weekend at the ITA Midwest Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
