West Lafayette, Ind. - The Marquette University men's tennis team concluded play at the 2007 Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon, collecting several singles and doubles victories in the four-team event.

Also competing in the tournament with MU and Purdue was Iowa and Butler.

Junior Stephen Shao's bid for the Flight "B" singles title fell just short as J.P. Ritchie of Iowa came away victorious in the championship match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Shao, returning to action from injury, rallied for the first set win before running out of gas.

"Stephen came back and played at a high level," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "It was good to see him back in the lineup."

Sophomore Dusan Medan claimed third in the top flight thanks to a 6-4, 7-5 win over Christian Bierich of Iowa. Classmate Niko Boulieris also posted a victory in Flight "A," on the consolation side of the draw.

The Golden Eagles finished third in both of the doubles flights, with MU tandems of Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford and Stephen Shao and Niko Boulieris both earning victories.

"I thought we had some productive performances on the weekend, but overall we were very inconsistent," Rodecap said. "We mixed up our doubles lineup and struggled with our chemistry."
