The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the 2014 ITA Midwest Regional Thursday in Ann Arbor, Mich., with singles competition.

Five players earned selection to the prequalifying draw and after day one two competitors remain alive in their respective bid for a spot in the main draw. Junior Gleb Sklyr and freshman Andre Romanello each posted a pair of wins after dropping the first set in the second match on Thursday and need one more win on Friday to claim one of nine qualifying spots in the field of the final 64.

Already in possession of spots in the main draw are senior Vukasin Teofanovic and sophomores Daniel Fernandez and Nick Dykema.

The Golden Eagles will feature four tandems in the doubles main draw, which begins on Friday. The duo of Teofanovic/Dykema is seeded 12th in the field.
