Men's Tennis Wraps Up Play At Northwestern Invitational
Oct. 17, 2010
The Marquette University men's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2010 Northwestern Wildcat Invitational Sunday morning with singles competition at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.
Junior Jonathan Schwerin capped a successful weekend by claiming the consolation title of the Flight B draw with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Purdue's J.F. Englebrecht. After dropping his opening matchup, Schwerin didn't drop a set while advancing through the back draw.
"I felt good about some of the results we posted this weekend," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We have a few guys who have really stepped up and have taken great strides with their level of play."
Doubles play concluded on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles advancing to the championship matchup in both the Flight A main and consolation draw title contests. Neither finals contest was played.
Marquette returns to action next weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by fellow BIG EAST competitor Notre Dame.
"I think we are in much better shape heading into regionals and I look forward to good results there," Rodecap said.
