The Marquette University men’s tennis team continued play at the ITA Midwest Regional Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich., with singles and doubles competition.

The Golden Eagles opened play with main draw doubles action and qualifying and main bracket singles competition.

A trio of Marquette tandems claimed their respective opening matchups on Friday morning. No. 12 seed Vukasin Teofanovic and Nick Dykema posted an 8-5 win over their opponent from Notre Dame and sophomore Kristiyan Trukov and freshman Andre Romanello snuck by UWGB 8-7. Senior Cameron Tehrani and sophomore Daniel Fernandez also made quick work of their opposition from Cleveland State.

Junior Gleb Sklyr and Romanello came up one win away from claiming a spot in the main draw. Sklyr fell in the qualifying draw to Charlie Emhardt of Valparaiso and fifth-seeded Maik Steiner of Western Michigan downed Romanello.

As action continues in the main singles draw Friday evening, sophomores Dykema and Fernandez have yet to complete their respective opening matches Friday night. Teofanovic dropped a tough three-set decision to Sten Leusink of DePaul in his tourney lidlifter.
