Columbus, Ohio - The Marquette University men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Saturday afternoon, hosted by Ohio State University at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Junior Dusan Medan pushed the event's top seed to the edge of a first-round loss, but Ohio State's Justin Kronague was able to rally for a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory. The Buckeye junior is currently ranked among the top-10 players in the country. Medan had multiple match points, but was unable to close out the win.
Senior Trent Hagan earned a spot in the main draw as well, but dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to George Navas of Michigan in his opener.
Medan and senior Stephen Shao teamed up in doubles action on Friday. The duo downed Jon Wegener and Zane Smith of Ball State 8-1, before falling to a tandem (Chris Madden/Andrew Mazlin) from Michigan in a hard-fought 9-8 contest.
Shao opened play for MU on Thursday, falling to Will Kendall of Indiana, 7-5, 6-2 in the qualifying draw.
The squad returns to action next weekend at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium when the team hosts the Marquette Fall Invitational, October 24-26.
