The Marquette University men’s tennis team continued play at the 2012 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional on Friday with both singles and doubles action in East Lansing, Mich.
Sophomore Cameron Tehrani rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Fedor Beay of Northwestern to claim his third win of the weekend, which earned him a spot in the main draw.
MU had a trio of doubles squads fall in the opening round of the main draw, with only junior Logon Collins and Tehrani teaming up for a victory. The MU duo posted an 8-6 win over a team from rival Wisconsin. The freshman duo of Javier Varela Hernani and Gleb Sklyr fell to a squad from Youngstown State and junior Dan Mamalat and sophomore Vukasin Teofanovic, seeded 16th, were edged 9-8 (5) by an opponent from Cleveland State.
Tehrani and a trio of Golden Eagles already in the main draw were defeated in the opening round. Tehrani and Teofanovic fell in straight sets, while juniors Dan Mamalat and Collins dropped tough three-set decisions.
Varela Hernani also claimed a singles victory in consolation action of the qualifying singles draw.
The Golden Eagles will return to the courts on Saturday morning with more singles competition.
