The Marquette University men's tennis team opened play at the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championship Thursday morning with singles action in the prequalifying draw.

The event, which is being hosted by Notre Dame, continues through Oct. 25 and will include a main draw in singles and doubles.

Senior Jose Manuel Munoz is the lone Golden Eagle remaining in the prequalifying draw after posting a pair of wins on Thursday. He opened with a tough 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over UIC's James Li and followed that up with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Matt Dooley of Notre Dame. Munoz will face No. 9-seeded Paul Swanson of Green Bay on Friday morning for a spot in the main draw.

Also competing for MU on Thursday were freshmen Logon Collins and Thibault Troude and junior Jonathan Schwerin. Troude and Schwerin fell in the first round, while Collins picked up a win before bowing out against Matt Johnson of host Notre Dame.

Sophomore Otavio Perim and freshman Dan Mamalat earned spots in the main draw and are awaiting the determination of their respective opponents.
