Schwerin, Tehrani Advance At Northwestern Wildcat Invite

Senior Jonathan Schwerin and freshman Cameron Tehrani both advanced in main draw action Saturday afternoon as the Marquette men’s tennis team continued play at the 2011 Northwestern Wildcat Invitational.

Schwerin downed Northwestern’s Alberto Zanotti 6-4, 6-4 to earn a spot in the Flight B semifinal. He will face Michael Sicora of Minnesota on Sunday morning for a spot in the title match. Tehrani rallied for a victory over Western Michigan’s Ross VanderPloeg, earning a 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) decision in the Flight C bracket. Tehrani will take on Eric Frueh of Minnesota in the semifinals.

The Golden Eagles also had several other individuals advance in the consolation brackets in both singles and doubles competition.

The tournament concludes Sunday with action in each of the five draws.
