Munoz Claims Fourth-Straight Win At ITA Midwest Championships
Oct. 22, 2010
Senior Jose Manuel Munoz continued his impressive run at the 2010 ITA Midwest Regional Championship, hosted by Notre Dame, with a victory in the main draw over a nationally ranked opponent.
After posting a trio of victories in the prequalifying draw to claim a spot in the 64-player main bracket, Munoz opened play on Friday with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over No. 99-ranked Steven Williams of Ohio State. Munoz will return to action Saturday morning against 11th-seeded Daniel Stahl of Notre Dame.
Munoz also helped Marquette claim a doubles victory, partnering with freshman Logon Collins for an 8-6 win over Bryan Kelly and Daven Brodess of Notre Dame.
“Manny has competed really hard to get to this point,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “His win today over a nationally ranked player was a very good step for him. He had an opportunity and took advantage of it.”
