MU Faces Tough Competition On First Day At Texas Invitational

The Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the 2009 Texas Invitational Friday morning with both singles and doubles competition.
Each of the four players in attendance representing MU was placed in the open singles draw and the Golden Eagles also featured a pair of doubles tandems.
Senior Dusan Medan, who was seeded sixth in the 32-player draw, defeated Alberto Bautista of Texas A&M 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the opening round before falling to Chris Camillone of Texas in the round of 16. Niko Boulieris, Otavio Perim and Jonathan Schwerin were all defeated in their respective opening matches of the tournament.
The trio of players will not try to make its way through the consolation draw. Boulieris defeated Bautista 6-3, 6-4 and Perim advanced when fifth-seeded Julian Bley of Baylor was forced to withdraw due to injury.
MU’s doubles teams of Boulieris-Perim and Medan-Schwerin were both defeated in their opening outing, falling to squads from Texas A&M and Texas, respectively.
