Sophomore Otavio Perim and freshman Logon Collins each claimed a pair of victories Friday as the Marquette University men’s tennis team opened play at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.

Perim, seeded third in the Flight B draw, posted a pair of straight-set wins over Nicolas Moreno of UT-Arlington and Dusan Savkovic of Lamar. Collins also made quick work of his first opponent and advanced after Chris Camillone of Texas was forced to retire. Collins had already won the first set.

Marquette had a trio of doubles tandems in action in the main draw, but only Collins and senior Jose Manuel Munoz were able to post a win. The duo was defeated in the second round by a squad from Texas A&M.

Junior Drake Kakar, who had missed all of the fall campaign with an injury, made his 2010-11 debut with singles competition on Friday. Freshman Thibault Troude is alive in the consolation draw of Flight B and will return to the court Saturday morning.
