The Marquette University men's tennis team opens the dual match portion of its 2011-12 campaign Saturday night when the squad travels to No. 25 Minnesota, with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles return five letterwinners from last season's 14-12 squad, including sophomore Dan Mamalat. Mamalat posted an 8-3 overall record in fall competition, the second-most wins of any player on the roster. Also back for MU are sophomore Logon Collins, junior Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and seniors Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin.

Marquette's quartet of newcomers includes David Packowitz, James Stark, Cameron Tehrani and Vukasin Teofanovic. Tehrani topped the roster with nine singles wins this fall.

Marquette has posted a winning dual match record in each of the past six seasons under ninth-year head coach Steve Rodecap.

"This is always an exciting time of year for the team, with the start of school and the dual match season," Rodecap said. "We were able to get a lot of matches under our belt in the fall and I think that's only going to help us as the year continues.

"We have a number of opportunities for younger guys to step up and make contributions and I am eager to see how they respond to the challenge," Rodecap added.

Minnesota's lineup includes 118th-ranked Leandro Toledo, who posted an 11-3 mark during the fall season, including two wins over top-30 opponents. Toledo and Phillip Arndt combine to form the 55th-ranked doubles squad in the nation.

The Golden Gophers are 4-0 all-time versus Marquette, including a 6-1 decision in the season opener for both programs in 2011.
