Marquette Opens Homestand Friday Afternoon
Jan. 23, 2013
The Marquette University men’s tennis team (0-1) returns to action this Friday, Jan. 26 when the squad hosts a pair of non-conference matches at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles will welcome IUPUI on Friday at 4 p.m. and then face off against UIC on Saturday at 3 p.m.
“It’s always comfortable playing in your home facility and I feel like we have defended our home court pretty well over the years,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “It will be exciting to get back to action after Notre Dame and the guys are eager to get back to competition.”
IUPUI enters the match coming off four-straight losses, including a 7-0 loss to Xavier last weekend. During the string of losses the Jaguars lost a tight match against SIU-Edwardsville, falling 4-3.
Coming off a 7-0 win against Chicago State, UIC will enter this Saturday with a 1-2 record. After losing two straight 5-2 matches against DePaul and Western Michigan, UIC is looking to put together two-straight victories.
“IUPUI has really improved from last year and had a solid recruiting class and their lineup will feature six quality players, so the guys will have to be ready,” Rodecap said. “UIC is always a contender in their league and has postseason experience, so it’s going to be a challenge the entire weekend for us.”
The two matchups are the first half of a five-match homestead for the Golden Eagles. Marquette looks to rebound after a 7-0 loss to No. 30 Notre Dame last weekend. Cameron Tehrani was the lone MU player to claim a set against the Fighting Irish.
