MU Opens Homestand Saturday Against IUPUI & Chicago St.

Jan. 26, 2011

The Marquette University men's tennis team (0-1) returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 29 when the squad hosts a pair of matches at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles will welcome both IUPUI and Chicago State to campus this Saturday. This day-long tennis event will begin at 10 a.m. with doubles against IUPUI and continue with the Golden Eagles playing Chicago State at 4 p.m.

“It will be nice to have our first matches at home this weekend,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We will be playing a much-improved IUPUI team, followed by Chicago State. I think it’s important to play some doubleheaders early in the season to push the guys physically and to get everyone some matches.

“I look forward to seeing Thibault (Troude) get his first college dual match because he has been working really hard and has come a long way,” Rodecap added. “He will be a key factor for us this year and we need him to have a solid weekend for us in both singles and doubles.“

IUPUI enters the match coming off a win last weekend at SIU-Edwardsville. The Jaguars swept all three doubles matches and won four of their six singles matches. The Cougars are coming into the match after losing 7-0 to Western Illinois last Sunday.

The two matchups are the first half of a four-match homestead. MU opened the dual match season with a 6-1 loss at No. 33 Minnesota last weekend. Freshman Dan Mamalat claimed his first-ever singles win to claim Marquette’s lone point.
