Marquette Hosts IUPUI, Illinois State In Dual Action
Jan. 26, 2017
The Marquette University men’s tennis team will open a four-match homestand this weekend when it welcomes IUPUI on Jan. 28, followed by Illinois State on Jan. 29. Both matches will be held at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium and will begin at 1 p.m. Central time.
The Golden Eagles (0-1) hope to rebound after starting the dual portion of its slate with a loss to Minnesota. Minnesota’s lineup did feature a nationally ranked singles player and a ranked doubles team.
IUPUI (0-1) is also coming off of a loss to a Big Ten team, being defeated by No. 13 Northwestern, 7-0. The Golden Eagles also played IUPUI in its home lidlifter last season, taking down the Jaguars, 5-2.
Illinois State (1-2) won its first match of dual season against Arkansas Pine Bluff, but has lost two straight since, most recently falling to No. 19 Arkansas. The matchup with Illinois State will be the first for MU since the 2005-06 season, when the Redbirds bested MU, 6-1, in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles will look to snap a four-match losing streak against Illinois State on Sunday.
After the weekend series, Marquette will continue its homestand next weekend when they take on Toledo on Feb. 3, followed by South Dakota State on Feb. 4. Both events will begin at 6 p.m. CT and be held at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
