Beginning Friday, the Marquette University men’s tennis team will begin its three-match weekend at home before looking to claim its first road wins of the 2016 dual season in Bloomington, Ind.

“It’s going to be a challenging weekend with the number of matches and travel, but I am looking forward to seeing how the team responds,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We did some good things in our opening match, but have plenty of room to improve.”

The Golden Eagles host South Dakota State Friday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. CT. The Jackrabbits come into the match off a pair of losses two weeks prior to both BIG EAST member DePaul, 5-2, and then-No. 23 Minnesota, 7-0.

Following the home match, MU heads southeast Saturday, Jan. 30 to face Indiana at 5 p.m. CT followed by VCU on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 10:30 a.m. CT.

Like South Dakota State, Indiana is also 0-2 to begin its dual season. The Hoosiers will end their away match stint to begin at home for the year with VCU Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT.

VCU began its season with a 4-0 sweep, largely contributed by senior Michal Voscek, who won all four of his singles matches at VCU’s Invitational. Last year, MU fell to VCU 6-1 and Daniel Fernandez was the lone Golden Eagle to claim a win.

In Marquette’s first match of the campaign on Jan. 22, Nick Dykema secured the 5-2 win for the Golden Eagles over IUPUI. Freshman Alvaro Verdu also picked up his first collegiate dual victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. MU swept all three of its doubles matchups.

Marquette will continue its road stint in Ft. Meyers, Fla. Saturday, Feb. 6 as they take on both Bethune-Cookman and Florida Gulf Coast.
