MU Hits The Road to Face Minnesota Friday Night

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team will hit the road for the first away contest of the season against Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
The Golden Eagles (4-1) opened the dual season with four-straight wins, but dropped their most recent match to No. 31 Wisconsin, 6-1. The match against the Badgers marked the first time this season the Golden Eagles surrendered a set in singles or doubles action. Junior Mark Rutherford earned the lone victory for Marquette at the No. 4 singles position.
Three Golden Eagles lead the team with four singles wins, including juniors Dusan Medan and Niko Boulieris, and senior Stephen Shao. The pair of junior Mark Rutherford and freshman Jonathan Schwerin top the squad in doubles action, posting a 3-1 spring record.
Minnesota (0-0) hosts the Golden Eagles in the squad's first spring match of the season. Two Gophers doubles teams are recognized in the latest ITA rankings, with the pair of sophomore Sebastian Gallego and junior Dino Bilankov ranked 22nd nationally, along with sophomore Tobias Wernet and freshman Michael Sicora at 26th. Wernet is also ranked at 76th in singles. Gallego led the squad in fall wins, tallying a 9-4 record, followed closely by freshman Phillip Arndt with eight wins.
The Gophers hold a 2-0 all-time advantage against Marquette, with the last meeting dating back to the 1999-00 campaign.
