Marquette Continues Homestand Against Northern Illinois, UIC

The Marquette men's tennis team hosts back-to-back matches this weekend against Northern Illinois and UIC before hitting the road for five consecutive matches.

Doubles action against the Huskies starts on Friday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. and against UIC on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Golden Eagles (2-1) are undefeated at home this season, recording wins over IUPUI and Chicago State. MU's only loss was at No. 33 Minnesota in the dual season opener. Freshman Dan Mamalat is unbeaten in dual play, boasting a 3-0 record from the two and three singles spots, while the doubles pair of sophomore Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and Mamalat lead the squad with a 2-0 spring record.

Northern Illinois (1-1) plays at Marquette before returning to Rockford, Ill. for a four match homestead. The Huskies are led by two singles wins each by Maksym Bartiuk, last year's MAC Freshman of the Year, and freshman Axel Lagerlof.

UIC (1-4) has lost two matches in a row, both by 7-0 scores, to Western Michigan and Illinois State. Senior Luiz Gonzaga was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Jan. 25. No singles player or doubles pair on the Flames' roster has more than one win in dual play.
