The Marquette University men’s tennis team will face UIC Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. and Bradley Feb. 5 at 12 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in what will be the Golden Eagles second week of regular season play.

Marquette (1-1) returns to action after winning last weekend against IUPUI. The No. 1 doubles team of junior Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and sophomore Dan Mamalat, and the No. 3 freshman tandem of James Stark and Cameron Tehrani came out strong for the Golden Eagles after an 8-6 win in the No. 1 position and 9-8 victory in the No. 3 position. Singles players senior Jonathan Schwerin, sophomore Logon Collins, and freshman Vukasin Teofanovic also proved victorious in what was Marquette’s first regular-season home win.

“We will be facing a pair of quality teams and our guys have to be ready for our first two-match weekend of the season,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “Doubles is going to be key for us all season and to this point we haven’t competed like we need to at all three positions.”

UIC (0-3) comes to MU after suffering losses to DePaul, Northwestern, and Chicago. No. 4 singles senior Nate Kirk and No. 5 singles junior Rahul Kamath earned the first victories of the season for the Flames after Kirk posed a 7-6, 7-6 victory and Kamath a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Chicago.

The Bradley Braves enter the match after a strong singles showing at the State Farm MVC’s Men’s Tennis Individual Championship. Sophomore Arthur Romanet and Junior Eric Nguyen competed in the Flights 6 and 7 championship rounds with Romanet claiming the crown in Flight 7 after a 3-set victory over Wichita State’s Kester Black 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Romanet became the first Bradley to win a singles flight at the tournament.
