Feb. 3, 2010

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team looks to extend its winning streak to five matches when it hosts Toledo Thursday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m.

Head coach Steve Rodecap's squad opened the season with 7-0 defeats over Western Illinois, Chicago State and IUPUI, and most recently tallied a 6-1 victory against UIC in Milwaukee. Thursday marks the Golden Eagles' fifth home match in an 11-match homestand.

Marquette (4-0) is led by four players who have tallied three singles wins each in dual play. Seniors Mark Rutherford, Dusan Medan and Niko Boulieris have combined with freshman Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowly at all six positions. The Golden Eagles have only fallen once in singles play, at the No. 4 spot against UIC.

In doubles action, sophomore Drake Kakar and freshman Otavio Perim are undefeated at the No. 2 and 3 spots, boasting a 3-0 record, to lead the team along with the three wins by Boulieris and sophomore Jonathan Schwerin.

The Rockets (3-1) will play four matches in as many days, facing Marquette in the first day. Juniors Sven Burus and Nutthavit Likitkumchorn lead Toledo with nine overall wins each, while classmate Aleksandar Elezovic is the only team member to tally three wins in dual action. Elezovic was the MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Jan. 28 with two straight set victories. Litkitkumchorn, a returning second-team All-MAC selection, and redshirt sophomore Leo Sarria boast the best dual double record for the Rockets, 3-1 at the top position.

Coached by Al Wermer, Toledo is picked to finish fourth of the six teams in the Mid-American Conference. UT finished last season with an 18-11 record, falling in the final round of the MAC Championships to Western Michigan.
