The Marquette University men’s tennis team embarks on an East Coast road swing to take on a pair of Ivy League squads this weekend Feb. 8-9, traveling to Princeton and Penn.

The Golden Eagles will take on the Princeton Tigers at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Princeton, N.J., After its contest against Princeton, Marquette travels to Philadelphia, Pa., for a matchup against Penn on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.

“This is a big weekend for us as we will be playing against two of the best Ivy League teams in Princeton and Penn,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “When you play good teams on the road there is very little room for error and we will need to execute well if we want to have success. The doubles point in both matches will be extremely important and we certainly look to set the tone of the match through excellent doubles play.”

Marquette (3-2) made quick work of UIC in its most recent action, dousing the Flames 7-0. MU claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, and carried its momentum into singles play. Vukasin Teofanovic, Kristiyan Trukov, Logon Collins, Dan Mamalat and Mackenzie Stearns all recorded singles wins for the Golden Eagles. Stearns’ victory at the No.6 position was his collegiate win.

Princeton (2-0) has posted consecutive victories to open its 2013-14, winning at both William & Mary and Old Dominion. In its most recent action against the Old Dominion Monarchs, Princeton claimed a decisive 5-2 victory. The Tigers dominated doubles play and after dropping the first two matches of singles action, rattled of four consecutive wins to earn the overall victory.

Penn opens its season on Saturday, Feb. 8 when it welcomes Buffalo before hosting MU on Sunday. The Quakers return five letterwinners from last year’s team that posted a record of 9-11.

After its travels out east, the Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee when it hosts Wright State on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. CT.
