Golden Eagles Continue Homestand With Pair Of Weekend Matches

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team looks to extend its winning streak with two matches in as many days this weekend. The Golden Eagles host Green Bay Friday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. and take on Bradley Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
Marquette (5-0) has lost only three singles matches and just one doubles match in dual contests entering the weekend.
With his next singles victory, senior Niko Boulieris will be the all-time leader in singles wins in program history. He currently sits tied with Kenneth Ore (1991-95) with 78 overall singles wins. The Lake Forest, Ill., native is in second place in MU record books with 148 all-time wins (singles and doubles) through last Thursday's win over Toledo. Brett Binkley holds the top spot with 161 all-time wins.
Boulieris, classmate Dusan Medan and freshman Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley each boast 4-0 singles records this spring to lead Marquette. Freshman Jacob Straus has tallied a 16-3 singles record in fall tournaments and spring play. The duos of Medan/Straus and sophomore Drake Kakar/freshman Otavio Perim are each undefeated with three doubles wins.
Green Bay (2-3) tallied back-to-back wins over Western Illinois and IUPUI, but enters the match Friday on a two-match losing streak. The Phoenix fell, 7-0, to Western Michigan and DePaul last weekend. Green Bay finished last season tied for fourth in the Horizon League with an 8-10 overall record. Marquette recorded a 7-0 win over the Phoenix last season in the middle of a seven-match winning streak.
Head coach Jesse Plote's Bradley squad (1-1) enters the weekend with just two matches under its belt. The Braves opened the season with a loss at Butler before rebounding for a 5-2 win the next day over IUPUI. Senior Milos Romic, who plays at the No. 1 singles position for Plote, has two singles wins on the season. The Braves ended last season 8-13, falling in the opening round of the MVC Championships.
