Mamalat Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week
Feb. 11, 2014
Marquette University men’s tennis player Dan Mamalat has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the first of Mamalat’s career and the first collected by any Marquette player in 2013-14.
“We are obviously happy to see Dan be recognized for his strong play,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “He has been a valuable member of our lineup his entire career and will play a key role in our success the rest of this season.”
Mamalat accounted for a total of four victories (4-0) in a pair of road matches last weekend. He teamed up with Vukasin Teofanovic for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and posted straight-set wins at No. 2 singles vs. Princeton and No. 1 vs. Penn in a return to his native state. The Golden Eagles dropped a tough 4-3 decision against the Tigers before posting a 5-2 victory over Penn.
The Philadelphia, Pa., native is 9-4 in singles competition in 2013-14 and 5-1 in dual competition. He and Teofanovic are 5-2 in doubles.
Marquette opens a four-match homestand Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT against Wright State at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
