Marquette Hosts UIC Friday Night At 6 p.m.

The Marquette University men’s tennis team (3-3) will take on UIC in its first match at home since January on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. CT.

The home match also marks the last at Helfaer Tennis Stadium until March against NIU.

In their recent road swing, the Golden Eagles finished the weekend 1-1 overall in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Marquette downed Bethune-Cookman 4-1 to start the weekend on Saturday, Feb. 6, when the team played outdoors for the first time this season. Senior Daniel Fernandez and freshman Alvaro Verdu claimed the doubles point at the No. 1 spot in a 7-5 decision for the highlight of the day.

MU Downs UIC 5-2 In Non-Conference Action
The Marquette University men's tennis team (4-4) completed a successful weekend at home with a 5-2 win over UIC (2-6) in non-conference action at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, MU fell to FGCU in a 5-2 decision. Fernandez and Verdu clinched the point at No. 1 yet again, making the tandem 7-4 overall on the year and 4-2 in dual action. Kristiyan Trukov and Greg Anderson also followed with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot, and junior Nick Dykema accounted for the lone singles win.

UIC (2-2) claimed its first wins of the 2016 dual campaign in bouts against NIU, 4-3, and Lewis University, 5-2. Against both the Huskies and the Flyers, the Flames secured all of their three doubles matches and a total of seven singles wins.

Following UIC, the Golden Eagles return to action Saturday, Feb. 20 to challenge Purdue (7-1) in West Lafayette, Ind. at 1 p.m. CT.
