Marquette Returns To Action This weekend In Texas

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team looks to rebound after its first two losses of the season as it travels to San Antonio, Texas, this weekend. The Golden Eagles will take on host Texas-San Antonio Friday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and face off against No. 62 Nebraska at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Steve Rodecap's squad (4-2) captured four sweeps to open the season before falling to Big Ten opponents Wisconsin and Minnesota. The match against Nebraska marks the team's second against a ranked opponent this season. Juniors Stephen Shao and Dusan Medan and sophomore Niko Boulieris each lead the team with four wins apiece. In doubles play, the pairs of Boulieris-Medan and Medan-Shao are both 2-0 in doubles play this season.

Texas-San Antonio (2-4) lost four in a row before capturing a 5-2 victory over St. Edward's. Both freshman Shariq Khan and sophomore Daniel Moreiras are on two-match winning streaks in singles play, and the Moreiras-Rodrigo Morgado duo are 4-2 this season for the Roadrunners. Head coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein's squad hosted the Golden Eagles during the 2006-07 campaign, but the match was cancelled due to weather.

No. 62 Nebraska (3-1) rose from the No. 73 spot in the ITA rankings following wins against No. 57 Indiana and Georgia State. The Huskers will face off against another ranked team when head coach Kerry McDermott's team plays No. 61 Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday prior to playing Marquette Saturday. Represented in preseason ITA rankings include sophomore David Bendheim, ranked No. 74 in singles, and the doubles pair of Bendheim and sophomore Calin Parr, ranked No. 17 in preseason polls. The teams last faced off in 2004, with Nebraska capturing a 5-2 victory in Milwaukee.
