After collecting five-straight victories at home in dual matches, the Marquette University men's tennis team will take to the road to battle Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.

The match against the Gophers will be played at the Rochester Athletic Club in Rochester, Minn.

Marquette (5-1) suffered a setback in its season-opener at No. 30 Notre Dame on Jan. 19, but has since posted five consecutive victories, including a perfect 3-0 weekend (Feb. 9-10) last time out with wins over South Dakota St., Western Illinois and Bradley.

"I like this team and feel that they have really done a good job coming to practice and working hard," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We have been practicing with a purpose, but that doesn't guarantee us anything."

Junior Dan Mamalat has been playing exemplary tennis for MU this season, posting a 5-1 singles mark at the No. 1 position. The Philadelphia, Pa., native went 6-0 last weekend, which included three victories at No. 1 doubles with teammate Vukasin Teofanovic.

Minnesota, ranked No. 44 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's latest poll, enters the match against MU with a 2-5 mark on the campaign. The Gophers went 1-1 last weekend, earning a 4-3 victory over Louisville on Feb. 8, before dropping a 4-3 decision the next day to Boise State.

"Minnesota is a very good team and it will be a big test for our young team," Rodecap said. "We need to come out in doubles and be aggressive with physical play. Playing on the road and against a team like Minnesota, we certainly can't put ourselves in a hole early on."

The Gophers are led by senior Rok Bonin and sophomore Leandro Toledo, who are ranked No. 38 and No. 111 in singles, respectively.

Following the match against Minnesota, Marquette will travel to Wisconsin to play the Badgers on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.
