The Marquette University men's tennis team returns home to host a pair of matches against Western Illinois and South Dakota St. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

First serve against the Leathernecks is set for 2 p.m., with the nightcap against the Jackrabbits slated for 6 p.m.

Marquette (3-3) dropped back-to-back road matches last weekend at Boston College and Dartmouth. Sophomore Logon Collins continued his strong singles play over the weekend, claiming victories at the No. 5 spot in both of MU's matches, extending his winning-streak to five straight.

As a team, the Golden Eagles have demonstrated solid play in the singles portion of their dual matches. MU is 3-3 at the No. 3, 4 and 6 positions, an impressive 4-2 at the No. 1 and 2 spots and 5-1 at No. 5 position.

Marquette is a perfect 3-0 in home matches this dual season.

“We need to have a complete weekend where we play at a sustained level for long durations,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “I am looking for our guys to be hungry after a tough weekend in Boston and bounce back.

“I am committed to giving some of the younger guys a chance this weekend and I am looking for them to come out with an edge and play like they have something to prove,” Rodecap added.

Western Illinois (1-3) defeated Illinois College 7-0 Wednesday night to pick up its first win of the season. WIU opened the season getting swept in straights by nationally-ranked opponents, Wisconsin and Drake WIU also dropped a 5-2 matchup with Saint Louis on Feb. 10.

South Dakota St. (2-2) split its matches last weekend, claiming a 6-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 10, before getting swept by Creighton in straight sets the following day. The Jackrabbits are led by junior James Thorp and freshman Parker Lawley, both of whom are 3-1 in singles play and have teamed up in doubles to post a 3-1 mark on the season.
