Marquette Travels To Rival Wisconsin Wednesday
Feb. 16, 2015
The Marquette University men's tennis team will travel to rival Wisconsin Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (4-4) will look to extend their current three-match winning streak, having defeated Toledo, South Dakota State and UIC this past weekend.
MU extended its home win streak to 19 matches Sunday with a 5-2 victory over UIC. Senior Vukasin Teofanovic and junior Daniel Fernandez clinched the doubles point to start the match. Kristiyan Trukov, Nick Dykema, Fernandez and Teofanovic all earned singles wins to seal team victory for the Golden Eagles.
Wisconsin (1-7) has dropped its last six decisions, all at the hands of ranked opponents. Wednesday's match will conclude a three-match homestand for the Badgers. They dropped a 5-2 decision to #41 Drake on Feb. 13 and lost 7-0 to #29 North Carolina State on Feb. 15.
"Wisconsin has had an incredibly tough schedule to start the year and they are playing with a very young and talented team," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We will need to do an excellent job of sustaining a high level of play against them.
Our doubles has gotten better as the year has progressed and feel we have several options to play with," Rodecap added. "The doubles point is so crucial when you are playing good teams, and can give you a lot of momentum headed into the singles portion of the match."
Following Wisconsin, MU returns to Milwaukee for a matchup against IPFW on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
