Golden Eagles Continue Road Swing This Weekend In South Carolina

The Marquette University men's tennis team will return to action this weekend in South Carolina to wrap up a five-match road swing at Clemson on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. CT and Furman at 10 a.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles (4-4) dropped a 6-1 decision on Wednesday, Feb. 16 against No. 40 Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. Freshman Dan Mamalat captured the lone point for the Golden Eagles in singles play by defeating Wisconsin's Ricardo Martin at the No. 2 spot. Otavio Perim and Thibault Troude claimed a victory for Marquette8-4, at No. 3 doubles against UW's Rodney Carey and Ricardo Martin.

Clemson, ranked No. 51 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is currently 8-2 in dual matches this season. Clemson's Juan Bolona and Dominique Maden have put the Tigers in position to claim the valuable doubles point several times this season by posting a perfect 4-0 mark at No.1 doubles. Freshman Gerardo Meza is 3-0 at No. 1 singles this year.

Furman (0-7) has faced four top-50 opponents in dual matches this season. Depth is a strength for Furman, as the Paladins have had 12 different players compete in singles matches this year. Sophomore Robbie Aru has been the bright spot for a young Furman team going 2-3 in dual matches.

Clemson will host Furman on Feb. 18 before welcoming the Golden Eagles.
