Golden Eagles Wrap Up Homestand Sunday Afternoon Against IPFW

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis squad will host IPFW Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee.

The Golden Eagles (7-3 overall, 0-0 BIG EAST) opened the season with four 7-0 wins in a row before dropping three of the next four. Most recently, head coach Steve Rodecap's squad strung together back-to-back 7-0 victories over Eastern Illinois and South Dakota State. Marquette has dominated in Milwaukee this season, boasting a 6-1 home record.

Junior Dusan Medan leads the squad in singles wins this season, with a 7-3 dual record. Senior Stephen Shao and junior Niko Boulieris each hold 6-3 dual records. In doubles action, the pair of junior Mark Rutherford and freshman Jonathan Schwerin has tallied four wins for the Golden Eagles to lead the team.

IPFW (3-8 overall, 0-0 Summitt League) has been unable to claim two consecutive victories this season. After beginning the campaign with six losses in seven matches, the Mastodons have traded wins and losses so far this season. Head coach Eric Burns' squad will travel to Green Bay on Saturday before facing off against the Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

For the Mastadons, junior Luis Maselli and Ryan Vogt have each been recognized by the Summit League as players of the week. Maselli posted a 5-1 last weekend, including an undefeated streak in singles play. Vogt received the honor the week of Feb. 18 after going 3-1 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play.

Sunday's match against the Mastadons will be the last home match in two weeks for the Golden Eagles, who will travel to Harvard, Brown, Hampton, and Old Dominion in non-conference play.
