MU To Wrap Up Homestand With Senior Day Against Eastern Illinois
Feb. 27, 2010
Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team will close out the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. against Eastern Illinois at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
All three seniors have excelled during their respective careers and have set record after record this season. One week after Boulieris set the new school record for career singles victories, Rutherford did the same in doubles action. Medan is currently the highest ranked men's tennis player in at least a decade when he was ranked 88th in the nation, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Feb. 18.
The Golden Eagles (10-0) have won every match this season by a minimal margin of 5-2, including six 7-0 victories. Boulieris leads the team with an unblemished 9-0 spring singles record, all from the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots. Medan follows close behind with an 8-1 record, while sophomore Jacob Straus boasts a 7-1 dual singles record. Marquette has lost two doubles matchups this season, tallying an incredible 28-2 dual record (.933 winning percentage). The duo of Medan and Straus is 7-0, including a 6-0 record from the No. 1 position.
Eastern Illinois (2-5) has dropped four consecutive matches, and has played every competition of this season on the road. Currently in sixth place of nine Ohio Valley Conference teams, freshman Justin Haag leads the Panthers with a 6-1 singles dual record and the only EIU athlete with an above .500 singles record. The Panthers have struggled in doubles action this season, winning just 3-of-15.
Marquette recorded a 7-0 victory over head coach John Blackburn's squad last season in Milwaukee.
