Golden Eagles Host Darmouth, Green Bay This Weekend
Feb. 28, 2013
The Marquette University men's team will continue its five-match homestand at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium this weekend with a pair of non-conference matches.
The Golden Eagles will host Dartmouth on Friday, March 1 at 6 p.m., before facing Green Bay on Sunday, March 3 at Noon.
Live scoring for each match will be available on GoMarquette.com.
Marquette (6-4) recorded split decisions last weekend, claiming a 7-0 sweep over Valparaiso (Feb. 22), before suffering a 5-2 setback to Toledo on Feb 23. The loss to the Rockets ended the Golden Eagles' six-match home winning streak.
“Dartmouth has a very strong team this year and has been in the national rankings in five out of the six weeks, so we will need to be really good on Friday night,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “It’s important with this young group that we show some resiliency coming off a tough loss and make sure that our backbone is as strong as ever.
“I have seen all of our spots be tough on certain nights, but we have yet to play a match were I felt like all nine spots were tough when we were faced with some adversity,” Rodecap added. “If we want to beat good teams, we will need to have mental consistency every time we take the court, and have absolutely no holes in our lineup.”
Dartmouth (4-6) put a stop to its three-match losing streak in its last outing on Feb. 24 against St. John's. After surrendering the all-important doubles point to the Red Storm, the Big Green netted a 4-3 come-from-behind victory to earn their first win since Feb. 10. Dartmouth is still searching for its first road win this season.
Green Bay enters play this weekend with a 7-2 overall mark in dual contests. The Phoenix also fell 5-2 to Toledo (Feb. 24) in its last match. Green Bay has competed with a variety of roster combinations this season, with at least three different players recording matches at each singles position.
After this weekend's contests, Marquette will conclude its homestand with a match against Northern Illinois on March 8.
