The Marquette University men’s tennis team (4-5) will open a short two-match home stand on Wednesday, March 2, when they play host to Northern Illinois at Helfaer Tennis Stadium, with first serve slated for 6 p.m. CT.

Marquette will look to avenge its 7-0 defeat against then-No. 36 Wisconsin last Saturday, Feb. 27, and put an end to its current two-match losing skid. The Golden Eagles, however, are 3-0 in home matches this season, and have won 12 of their last 14 matches dating back to last year.

Marquette Claims 4-2 Win Over Northern Illinois
The Marquette University men's tennis team (6-6) claimed a 4-3 victory over Northern Illinois (8-3) Thursday night in non-conference action at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

“It’s always a tough match when we play NIU and our guys are going to have to be ready to play from the start,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “It will be nice to be back at home for the first time in a few weeks and I am looking forward to a competitive match.”

The Huskies (10-4) are coming off consecutive 7-0 sweeps of SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois on Feb. 19 and 20, respectively. NIU has won seven of its past eight dual matches, with the lone loss coming against fellow-BIG EAST member, Butler.

The Golden Eagles have won two straight against the Huskies, last falling during the 2012-13 season, by a 4-3 decision.

Following its match with NIU, Marquette will welcome Eastern Illinois to campus on Saturday, March 5, with first serve scheduled for Noon CT. Following that match, the Golden Eagles will hit the road for a season-long six-match road trip.
