MILWAUKEE—The Marquette University men’s tennis team starts a six-match road stretch with squaring up against Indiana on Mar. 2 and IUPUI the following day.
The first serve against Indiana is slated for noon Central time. This will be Marquette’s (7-2) third meeting with a Big Ten opponent this season, losing to Iowa and Wisconsin.
The Hoosiers (7-5) are coming off a doubleheader last weekend, facing No. 35 Vanderbilt and Saint Louis University in the same day. Indiana went 1-1, falling to Vanderbilt and picking up a 6-1 victory over the Bilikens.
Indiana has seen consistency in singles play from junior Antonio Cembellin, who is 7-4 in the second position. Cembellin and partner Afonso Salgado have also been the longest-paired Hoosiers for doubles play, competing in nine matches together.
Marquette will travel to Indianapolis from Bloomington to see IUPUI. Play is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
The Jaguars (4-7) are on a three-match slide, dropping to Northern Illinois, Northwestern and Saint Louis. In doubles, Ethan Mardanus-Budio and Jac Newis have been a paring that has stuck for the Jaguars, posting a 3-4 record in the second position.
Marquette currently has seven players with a .500 or above record in singles. The pairing of Greg Anderson and Luis Heredia Gomez and of Scott Christian and Luke Smrek are posting a 5-2 record in the spring campaign.
The Golden Eagles will next head to Las Vegas to play two matches against UNLV and Northern Arizona.
