The No. 72 Marquette University men's tennis team will look to rebound after its recent loss this Thursday against Northern Illinois in non-conference action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start time against the Huskies.

MU (8-4) fell 4-1 against the Badgers last week, breaking its five match-winning streak. Freshman Nick Dykema was the lone Golden Eagle to secure a win at the No. 4 singles position. The squad remains undefeated at home.

“NIU is a very talented and dangerous team that is off to a great start this season,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “They have a great nucleus of veteran players who have played a lot of college tennis and our very experienced in tough situations. They have a very good number one doubles team that is ranked nationally and they have one a lot of doubles points this season.

“When our team is at our best we compete hard in all nine spots, and we are certainly going to need that on Thursday night against the Huskies,” Rodecap added.

The Huskies (10-3) head to Marquette with a four-match win streak. The team’s most recent action was a 4-0 sweep against Dayton. Jovan Zeljkovic secured a win at the No. 3 singles position after dropping his first set, 6-2, but went on to win the next two 6-2, 6-3. NIU has yet to win a match on the road.

Last year, the Huskies defeated MU in a close 4-3 decision. Cameron Tehrani etched out two victories at the No. 4 singles spot and the No. 2 doubles position with Logon Collins. Dan Mamalat also contributed with a victory at the No. 1 singles position.

After the match, the squad hits the road for five away matches. The Golden Eagles’ first stop will be in Las Vegas where they will take on Utah on Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. CT.
