Marquette Makes Trip To Florida For Pair Of Matches This Week

March 14, 2011

The Marquette University men's tennis team (8-6) continues a six-match road swing this week with a pair of non-conference matchups in the state of Florida.

The Golden Eagles will face Jacksonville at 1 p.m. CT on March 16 before playing Winthrop at 10 a.m. CT on March 18 at a neutral site.

"We look forward to getting back outdoors over the next two weeks," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "This is the first trip outside that we have been able to put some quality time in from a practice standpoint. Both teams are very quality opponents that we look forward to playing."

In the team's most recent action, MU defeated Western Illinois by a score of 7-0. Five of the team's eight overall dual-match victories this season have finished with final scores of 7-0. Freshman Logon Collins owns a team-best 18 overall singles victories this season, with seven of those decisions coming since early January.

Sophomore Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley and freshman Dan Mamalat are both in possession of nine dual-match wins, the highest total on the roster. Senior Jose Manuel Munoz and junior Jonathan Schwerin have collected eight wins as a tandem in dual action, with each of those decisions coming at the No. 1 position.

Jacksonville and Winthrop will play each other Monday afternoon on the Dolphins' campus.

Following the week-long trip to Florida, Marquette will participate in the Boise State Invitational (March 25-26).
