The Marquette University men's tennis team will conclude its five-match road trip over the weekend with matchups against BIG EAST foes Xavier and Butler.

The Golden Eagles will face the Musketeers at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 21 before taking on the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. CT the next morning.

"This is a very important weekend for our team as we travel to play against two BIG EAST Conference opponents," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Xavier and Butler both compete extremely well and play with a lot of energy, and will be a big challenge for our guys. I feel our guys have been doing a much better job competing with energy in the doubles and we will need to continue that this weekend."

Last time out, Marquette won a 4-3 tilt against Northern Arizona in Las Vegas. MU got off to a quick start against the Lumberjacks with junior Daniel Fernandez and senior Vukasin Teofanovic claiming the doubles victory at No. 1, while sophomores Kristiyan Trukov and Nick Dykema were able to follow suit with the win at No. 2. The top half of Marquette's singles lineup proved too strong for NAU as MU was able to claim victories at each of the top three positions.

Xavier comes into the match against the Golden Eagles with an 8-3 overall record. In its most recent match, the Musketeers were victorious against Dayton by a score of 5-2. Junior Zach Mueck paced Xavier by winning the points at the top doubles spot as well as the top singles position.

The win against the Flyers, propelled Xavier to a three-match winning streak, which ties its season high.

The Bulldogs currently sit at 3-10 on the season and are riding a six-match losing streak.

The matches against Xavier and Butler will be MU's first two BIG EAST Conference matches of the season, and are the final two matches away from the Helfaer Tennis Stadium before the BIG EAST Championship.

Following this weekend's tilts, MU returns home for its final four matches, beginning with an April 11 match against Youngstown State at 5:00 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
